Commuters are facing traffic chaos after a busy UK road has been closed ‘for several hours’ after a serious collision – which led to police, fire and ambulance crews all being called to the scene.
The A19 in Tyne and Wear was closed in both directions between the A1018/B1404 near Seaham and the A690 near New Herrington, National Highways said.
“Shortly after 11:30pm [on Monday, November 24] Durham Police attended the scene of a serious road traffic collision and closed the northbound carriageway. Shortly after the southbound carriageway was also closed,” National Highways said.
Durham Police, the ambulance service and fire and rescue teams are on the scene.
The road closure is expected to be in place for several hours as a full collision investigation is carried out.
This is an ongoing event and updates will be provided.
