More than 5,000 have been bought in the past month but the cheaper price is expected to end soon

A good pair of earbuds is great for busy commutes, adding some joy to gym sessions and can make a perfect gift. Luckily, with a Black Friday deal from Amazon, shoppers may not have to look far for high-quality audio this winter season.

The Apple AirPods 4 Wireless Earbuds are currently priced at £99, down from £119, saving a handy 17%. Thousands of shoppers have been snapping up the deal, with Amazon saying more than 5,000 have been bought in the past month.

They’ve also received an average rating of 4.5 out of five, from more than 7,000 reviews at the time of writing. Remodelled over the previous generations, these have a refined shape and shorter stem, promising ‘exceptional all-day comfort and greater stability’, the site says.

There’s also the handy quick-press controls for music or calls, along with the Siri functionality. Users can get up to five hours of listening time on a single charge, plus up to 30 hours of total listening time using the case.

The personalised spatial audio with dynamic head tracking places sound all around the user, creating ‘a cinema-like listening experience for music, TV shows, movies, games and more’, the brand says. There’s also improved call quality, with the Apple-designed H2 chip, which helps with voice isolation in loud environments.

The AirPods and the charging case are rated IP54 dust, sweat and water resistant, so they will withstand rain and heavy workouts. Plus, the charging case comes with USB-C charging capabilities, Amazon says.

As an alternative, shoppers could check out Currys’ JBL Tune Beam 2 Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Earbuds – Black, currently priced at £39.99, down from £79.99, saving £40. Available in black or white, these feature up to 10 hours of battery, or 40 hours with the included case, and have active noise-cancelling, and they are water and sweat-resistant.

Shoppers could also look at the Google Pixel Buds 2A True Wireless Earbuds, currently priced at £99, down from £129, a saving of £30. These are compatible with universal smartphones, IP54 dust, sweat and water resistant and have up to 10 hours of battery life.

Back to the Apple AirPods 4 Wireless Earbuds from Amazon, shoppers left high praise for the product. One said: “Amazing, tiny, easy to carry everywhere and good value for money as well, also the clarity of sound design is clear and good, easy to connect, and the weight is very light, so be careful when handling.”

Another added: “It’s soothing to my ears, worth the price and works perfectly well. Fast connectivity and fits my ears – absolutely love it.”

Another shopper said: “The Apple AirPods 4 are a huge step up from my previous earbuds. The sound quality is crystal clear with deep bass, and the personalised spatial audio really makes music and movies feel immersive.”

However, one shopper thought that the Find My functionality, used to find lost Apple devices, was better on the active noise-cancelling (ANC) model. They said: “Cracking AirPods, sound was much better than my old ones, more bass effect.

“However, I managed to accidentally lose mine after a few weeks. Using the Find My app, it just showed where they were last connected to my phone, not where they were at the present. Couldn’t play a sound as it needs to be connected to my phone with Bluetooth.

“Unable to highlight a lost item or block them, as you need the higher spec ANC version to do that. So lovely AirPods, just don’t lose them.”

Another shopper reminded buyers to check that they already have a USB-C charging cable. They said: “The fit in the ear is snug and nicer than my old first-gen ones. The only thing I would say is that for the money, I would have expected a charging cable.

“My own fault for not checking the contents, and luckily I already have one, otherwise I would have been a bit annoyed that I would have had to order one at additional cost.”
