A man has been watching his back after buying a second-hand book from a jumble sale, and it has made him question everything. He explained how his friend bought a copy of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and was shocked to discover two photos and a sketch inside it.

He said on Reddit: “On the back of one of the pictures it reads, ‘April 16th, 1967. Picnic At Riverview? Dave+Cheryl’. This normally wouldn’t mean anything, but after the book was in th house, he would begin to hear running noises, knocks, and the smell of freshly smoked cigarettes. Nobody in his family smokes cigarettes.”

He says his friend has a history of having “very vivid dreams”, and claims to have seen a man who wanted to talk to his mother.

He added: “This all began only after he had taken the book inside of his house. I’m wondering if this means anything, is the book haunted, or are these all just coincidences?”

Commenting on his post, another user shared their own story of buying a second-hand book and the horrors they encountered soon after.

They revealed: “I once took a book from an abandoned house that had a shed absolutely filled wall to wall with books. It was the gulag archipelago.

“As soon as I took it home I heard knocking all over the walls in all the rooms. When I got in the shower the lights would flicker, but only when in the shower, not using the toilet.

“I felt like there was someone there all the time. Then two days after talking it home, I was laying in bed on my phone facing the wall at night.”

They added: “I suddenly felt someone sit down beside me on the bed. The whole edge compressed like someone was there, but of course there wasn’t.

“I immediately jumped up and screamed and called my roommate to come home, I was so terrified and I knew it was the book.

“I took the book back to the house shortly after and nothing weird ever happened ever since in my house. Not once before or after. This s***is real.”

Another said: “This reminds me of something that happened to one of my coworkers.

“One time during lunch he gave a homeless man money and in exchange the homeless man gave him a few weird looking sketches, which he held on to.

“After receiving these sketches, weird things started happening to him. He started to see shadows in his apartment and also became depressed/suicidal.

“He eventually made the connection that all this started happening when he received the sketches, so he got rid of them and things go better.

“Maybe try getting rid of them or giving them/mailing them back to the person from the yard sale.”
