The simple hack might not be pretty, but it’s worth saving, as a blocked sink or kitchen drain can cause damage in the home through water damage and structural issues

Home cleaning hacks are always handy, especially when it comes to a blocked sink in a bathroom, kitchen or even the bathtub. Now, a simple YouTube video has shared some advice that people are saying “works like a charm” for getting rid of sink blockages and stagnant water in minutes.

The expert-approved hack works in just a few minutes, and doesn’t cost as all you need is a plunger. The simple hack might not be the most glamorous, but it’s worth noting, as a blocked sink or kitchen drain can lead to water damage, structural issues, and attract pests.

Backed-up water can lead to flooding, which can damage flooring, walls, and belongings. A severe blockage can also create pressure that causes pipes to leak or burst, resulting in more extensive damage.

Home repair expert Apartment Maintenance Pro has explained on YouTube that there’s a simple way to unclog a sink, and it doesn’t involve reaching for harsh chemicals or a multitude of products.

In the video, he uses a regular plunger to clear a stubborn clog in minutes as the simple tool creates suction that loosens debris inside the drain. There’s no need for pricey, plastic-packaged drain cleaners, which often contain harmful fumes and corrosive ingredients.

He also demonstrates that filling the sink with a small amount of water can help the seal before placing the plunger directly over the drain. The trick here to make this hack work is to be gentle, as he explains, “You don’t have to go crazy, just nice and easy.”

Ideal for bathroom sinks, kitchen drains, and even slow-draining tubs, the hack has also been highly praised by those who’ve viewed it on YouTube. One person wrote: “YESSS!!! This is the quickest, easiest, and only thing I’ve gotten to work. And it works PERFECTLY.”

Another added, “Thank you so much for this video. This made all the water go down inside my sink.”

‘Works like a charm. I thought it wouldn’t work and I tried doing it with doubts then after thinking I’ve done enough (a lot of pumps) waiting for that chuck chuck movement..then it works like magic!” said a third.

Another posted: “Thank you! I put small amount of Dawny and ran hot water in sink and used the plunger!!!!!! This was the only [thing] that helped.”

“”Thanks a lot. It saved the plumber cost. God bless you,” said another.

The hack is also considered a more sustainable way to care for your home, as many commercial cleaners contain lye and hydrochloric acid, which can cause burns, damage plumbing, and harm aquatic ecosystems when washed down drains.

Using the plunger method means less exposure to toxic chemicals and is also more environmentally friendly.
