But did you know that managing your blood pressure can help keep your hands and feet warm during the chilly season by promoting good blood circulation?

When we’re hot, our blood vessels near the skin expand (vasodilation), allowing more blood to flow to the surface and release heat.

On the other hand, when we’re cold, these vessels narrow (vasoconstriction) to conserve blood flow and retain heat deeper within the body, preventing heat loss, reports the Express.

To keep your extremities warm, it’s crucial to improve your vessels’ function. One way to achieve optimal circulation is by incorporating beneficial nutrients into your diet.

Eating foods high in nitrates provides your body with components that convert into nitric oxide, which dilates and widens blood vessels.

This process boosts blood flow and can enhance oxygen delivery to tissues – an effect that is beneficial for cardiovascular health.

Not only are beetroots packed with nitrates, but they’re also a valuable source of potassium and iron – a combination of minerals that work together to support healthy blood flow and pressure.

The root is at its best during the winter months, but its health benefits last all year round. According to the American Heart Association, beetroots are packed with antioxidants that help repair DNA and keep cells healthy.
