London sees off Paris and Sydney as the world’s most scenic city in springtime

ondon has been voted the most scenic city in the world at springtime beating challengers including Paris and Sydney.

The title was bestowed on the city after researchers analysed more than 300,000 Instagram hashtags for over 170 locations around the world to find out what locals and tourists were posting about on their accounts.

The research, by holiday firm Travelbag, found more than 100,000 posts tagged #springinLondon – around 20,000 more than the French capital in second place.

Seattle on the west coast of the USA was the third most popular choice, followed by Melbourne, Chicago and Sydney. Also in the top 10 were Berlin, Boston and Vienna.

London’s parks have proved a favourite with Instagrammers with images of blossom and daffodils proving particularly popular on social media.

Spring does not officially begin until next week, although it has come early this year for many people around the world with Tokyo declaring the start of the cherry blossom season 10 days earlier than usual.

The start of the season is a major event in Japan where the arrival of the blooms is celebrated with viewing parties and picnics.

Temperatures in the Japanese capital have been unseasonably mild recently and the flowers have only previously appeared this early in 2021 and 2020.

Londoners face a rainy start to spring this year according to the latest weather forecast, and temperatures in the capital could fall below zero tonight.
