A festive fan praised a ‘hidden’ Christmas market that ‘feels like stepping straight into a storybook’
With this year’s Christmas celebrations officially underway, festive fans across the country are seeking fun seasonal activities. Each year, traditional Christmas markets prove popular, and London has no shortage of options for families looking to enjoy mulled wine and festive shopping.
One ‘magical’ choice that could be lesser-known is the Victorian Christmas village at St Katharine Docks, next to Tower Bridge. According to a Facebook page for the event, the market is open daily from 11am to 8pm, until January 6.
Showcasing the ‘storybook’ market on TikTok, blogger @yaroslava_kirichok praised the ‘hidden’ event. The visitor wrote: “This is the most magical Christmas market no one talks about.” The video’s caption explained: “Hidden in the shadow of Tower Bridge, this Victorian-style Christmas market feels like stepping straight into a storybook.
“Cosy stalls, mulled wine and twinkly lights. Save this spot for your London Christmas bucket list! Next to Tower Bridge and St Katharine Docks.” The video delighted viewers, racking up almost 100k views and over 5k likes.
The Victorian Christmas village has received glowing reviews on Google. One fan said: “The Victorian Christmas Market at St Katharine’s Dock looks absolutely magical at Christmas — sparkling lights, cheerful carol singers, and lots of festive stalls to explore together.
“The atmosphere feels cosy and safe, with plenty to keep both kids and adults smiling. We enjoyed a hot chocolate by the water while watching the boats twinkle — a perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit!”
Another visitor shared: “One of best Christmas markets I’ve been to the feeling was amazing as well as the atmosphere got some lovely tasty treats, can’t wait to go back.”
A different reviewer thought: “I visited the Christmas market at St Katherine’s Dock last year with my family. It was a lovely day out, lovely food, friendly staff and all set against the backdrop of Tower Bridge. Perfect Christmas outing.”
Meanwhile, a visitor with mixed feelings claimed: “The Victorian Christmas Village is charming and the photo spot is especially adorable. However, there aren’t many stalls, so it feels quite small. It’s worth a visit if you’re nearby, but I wouldn’t travel a long distance for it. Solid 3/5 for cuteness, but limited offerings.”
Nonetheless, someone else commented: “Absolutely, love this event. Gets you into the Christmas spirit.” For anyone planning a visit to St Katharine Docks, it might also be worth browsing TripAdvisor reviews.
One fan commented: “This dock is absolutely beautiful. Seeing all of the boats as you walk down a long walkway is a sight that you don’t see to often these days.”
Another echoed: “Interesting area with lots to see – loved the bridges lifting up to let boats in and out. Nice choice of restaurants and cafes with views of water.”
