David Moyes hails ‘huge step’ towards West Ham survival after Man Utd win

The Hammers produced one of their best displays of the season to win 1-0 at the London Stadium, their first victory over ‘Big Six’ opposition all season.

Said Benrahma’s goal, which came courtesy of a David De Gea clanger, proved decisive, but the home side were good value for the win having also been denied a clear penalty after a handball by Victor Lindelof.

The result leaves the Hammers seven points clear of the relegation zone and with a markedly better goal difference than most of their rivals.

“It’s a huge step,” Moyes said. “To beat Manchester United in the run-in is a huge step. Getting three points is huge against whoever but against Man United it’s massive for us.

“It was probably well deserved the way we performed. The players showed great character and spirit. We had to dig deep at times but we played a lot more like the West Ham of the last few years.”

When asked whether his side were safe, however, Moyes added: “It leaves us much better, much harder for the other teams to catch us, they’ll find it very difficult to get the points.

“But the number isn’t confirmed that it keeps you in the Premier League so we have to look forward to the next game and try and pick up more points.”
