West Ham vs Gent: Prediction, kick-off time, team news, h2h and odds

Europe’s third-tier club competition has proven a welcome distraction from Premier League problems for David Moyes and an exit would render an already poor season utterly pointless.

Given the financial might the Hammers boast compared to the rest of the teams in the Conference League, as well as their recent European pedigree, they remain one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

With Moyes under pressure after failing to get the most out of an expensively assembled team, not getting to the June 7 final in Prague would surely see any credit he has left in the bank spent up.

Still, that’s not to say Gent will go quietly. Arguably the better team in last week’s draw in Belgium, little about West Ham’s performance there will worry them too much. Here’s everything you need to know about today’s game.

Date, kick-off time and venue

West Ham vs Gent is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off time tonight on Thursday April 20, 2023.

The London Stadium will host the match.

West Ham vs Gent team news

Moyes has close to a full squad available for the game. Striker Gianluca Scamacca is the only absentee after going under the knife to correct a knee injury.

Angelo Ogbonna, meanwhile, is suspended after picking up a booking in the first leg last week.

Although Nayef Aguerd missed the dramatic draw with Arsenal on Sunday, the Moroccan is now back in training and expected to feature tonight.

For Gent, there are no fresh injury concerns at this stage. Alessio Castro-Montes was rested at the weekend and should return to the starting lineup here, having impressed last week.

West Ham vs Gent prediction

While West Ham were not particularly convincing in Belgium, how they fought back against Arsenal spoke to a character this team haven’t always shown this season. On home soil, they should have enough.

West Ham to win, 2-1.
