A cleaning queen has shared her quick and easy hack for making dirty white sneakers look like new again using two unlikely items you probably have in your bathroom right now.  

Carolina McCauley, from Perth, uses a toothbrush and toothpaste to scrub her white leather and rubber trainers leaving them sparkling. 

The organised mum is known online for sharing her handy home hacks and demonstrated the simple sneaker cleaning trick in a video posted to TikTok and Instagram.

She starts by squeezing a dollop of toothpaste onto the brush and scrubbing the shoes ‘from top to bottom’. 

Carolina then said to wipe the shoes down with a damp cloth to get rid of the excess toothpaste.

She shows the dirty and cleaned shoes side by side proving the ‘amazing results’ of the simple cleaning hack. 

Many were wowed by the simple cleaning trick in the comments while others shared their own ways they make white sneakers look new again.

‘How did you know I needed this today?,’ one viewer wrote.

‘I’ve been using toothpaste too. Helps clean jewelries as well,’ another recommended.

For fabric sneakers, commenters suggested things from magic erasers, bleach, baking soda to even hand sanitiser.

‘Use a mix of toothpaste and baking soda. Make like a paste and then leave it over night and wash with soap next day,’ one woman advised. 

‘Been doing this to my white converse for yrs. You can do it again till they dry and are all white…don’t use bleach. Bleach will yellow or break the fabric,’ she continued.  

‘I’ve sprayed them with Resolve carpet cleaner, then left in the sun all day. They turned out crazy white!’ a second said. 

‘Throw them in a washing machine with a bunch of white towels and the towels will scrub the shoes clean,’ a third responded.
