A savvy mum has been praised online after sharing a ‘genius’ trick to ensure her kids brush their teeth every day.

Mum-of-two Ebony-Jayne, from Victoria, purchased the Colgate Magik toothbrush kit from Woolworths, which is paired with a phone app to encourage children to clean their teeth.

The affordable product was recommended to other parents part of the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group and only costs $9 from Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse when on sale.

‘Thought I would share this for any other parent that struggles with their children getting them to brush their teeth,’ Ebony-Jayne wrote online.

‘I got two of these yesterday for my boys for $9 in Wonthaggi Woolworths to give it a try as my oldest son who’s six-years-old always “forgets” to brush his teeth.’

Using the free Colgate Magik app, children aged four and above can have fun while being taught how to brush their teeth properly.

Augmented reality creates a fun experience for children to interact with – such as interacting with colourful characters, wearing digital hats and taking photos.

By following the app the toothbrush becomes a ‘game controller’ to teach kids the importance of cleaning your teeth.

The kit comes packed with a manual toothbrush, Magik connector toothbrush holder and phone holder.

Ebony-Jayne said the kit has been a huge success in her household as her son can’t wait to brush his teeth in the morning.

‘So far he even got up early, grabbed my phone and brushed his teeth all by himself with no nagging from me, he loved it,’ she said.

Other parents thanked Ebony-Jane for sharing the suggestion, while some added the product has already ‘worked wonders’ for their kids.

‘My son has this, works a treat for us, he loves the little monster telling him where he needs to brush more,’ one mum wrote.

‘This has been an absolute life saver for us,’ another added.

But some parents weren’t convinced and seemed concerned over the use of technology.

‘I’m feeling a little mixed about this one – sure its great to encourage kids to deal with personal hygiene and things they should be doing….but video games? why does everything come back to phones and apps and games?’ one mum wrote.

But another added: ‘I used to think this way too. But tech is now the way of the world.’
