The Secret Garden Glamping has been named Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year at the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2024

A luxurious glamping site, just a stone’s throw from Liverpool, has bagged the title of being the nation’s best. Situated in Skelmersdale, The Secret Garden Glamping has triumphed in clinching the “Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year” at the esteemed Visit England Awards for Excellence 2024.

Dad-of-two and founder of The Secret Garden Glamping, Derry Green, embarked on this venture back in 2020, when his lockdown pastime snowballed into a thriving business. Initially intended as a fun space for his children during the pandemic, the indulgent spot sprawls over four acres of woods, reports the Liverpool Echo.

What started as one tent swiftly morphed into a living pod, and before he knew it, Derry had crafted a glamping site right in his garden in Skelmersdale. Today, the site flaunts bespoke pods, lodges, yurts, and even a treehouse, each equipped with individual hot tubs.

On bagging the coveted award, Derry said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this award, it is a testament to our team’s hard work and our guests’ continuous support. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of what we offer and look forward to introducing new features and experiences in the near future.

“Winning the ‘Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year’ award is an honour that motivates us to continue our mission of providing exceptional hospitality. We thank VisitEngland for this incredible recognition.”

Guests can pick from a variety of 12 unique units including the wilderness spa, the oasis, the tree tops, and the lodge. Boasting breathtaking views of the Lancashire countryside, the site is touted as the ideal spot for a tranquil retreat for couples or an exciting holiday for the whole family.

Speaking to the ECHO, he said: “It started as something to do with the kids and snowballed before I knew it. I put it on Airbnb as a bit of a side hustle because I travel so much and people said they wanted to stay in it.

“I found it odd but was happy to oblige. I made an Airbnb account, went to sleep and the next morning bookings were through the roof.”
