A homeowner was left baffled after she uncovered a large amount of black mould hiding in an often forgotten part of her bathtub, which left her disgusted
A woman was left disgusted after realising just how much mould had been hiding inside her bathtub without her even realising.
Bathroom mould isn’t just an eyesore, it’s a health hazard that requires immediate attention. Mould flourishes in bathrooms because it thrives in damp, dark, secluded areas, which most loos provide in abundance.
Usually, your bath, shower or entire bathroom stays moist enough for mould to flourish simply from daily washing or showering routines. The most typical spots to discover mould in the bathroom include around the bath’s sealant, tile grout and on painted or wallpapered surfaces, though many remain unaware of other lesser-known locations where mould also prospers.
One homeowner called Sara Crow was stunned after discovering mould lurking inside the built-in jets of her bathtub, which the household had never used. However, after having lived in the property for six years, she decided to clean them for the first time, and was left gobsmacked by the amount of black mould that emerged within the jets.
Realising that her discovery was astounding, she immediately began recording her cleaning routine to post on her TikTok profile, with the clip soon amassing over 33 million views.
“Okay, I have never, we have lived here since 2019, and I have never turned these jets on,” she said as she pointed to the jets in her bathtub.

She continued to reveal that she’d now taken off the covers for the bathtub jets, and was then confronted by ‘mould central’ as they had all transformed from white to black due to mould.
“Um, it’s disgusting,” she said. “And I want a hot tub, we don’t have one.”
Due to this discovery, she chose to film her efforts at cleaning the bathtub by filling it with water and dropping in a dishwasher tablet, hoping it would help cleanse the jets when activated.
When she switched on the jets, the bath water quickly turned black from all the black mould that had been lurking inside the bathtub, leaving Sara utterly stunned. Nevertheless, she persisted with adding the dishwasher tablets, hoping they would assist in cleaning the tub.
Explaining that neither she nor the former homeowners had ever used the bathtub jets, she explained: “So, I’m telling you right now, these jets probably have never turned on, at least in a good 10 years.
“So, yeah, that’s f**king disgusting,” she remarked, as she swirled around the now foamy water, which she proceeded to drain, leaving the filter coated in the black mould.
She then proceeded to refill with fresh water and restart the jets, which resulted in additional bits of mould emerging from the jets, though it showed clear progress, as she continued to repeat the jet process with another dishwasher tablet.
Sara wasn’t alone in being shocked by what had occurred, as thousands of viewers flocked to the comments section to express their reactions.
“That was so much worse than I could’ve imagined,” one viewer commented, whilst another remarked: “I would have maybe… called a professional to do this. Omg.”
A third person observed: “Imagine you got curious and turned it on while in the tub without cleaning it LOL.”
