London is heading for a washout as thunderstorms and flooding are set to soak the capital, with a yellow weather warning issued. According to the UK’s national forecaster – The Met Office – the heavens will open over the capital between noon and 9pm today (May 6).
Be prepared for spray and sudden flooding, which could lead to major roads being closed. Homes and businesses may flood too, and there could also be power cuts.
In very extreme circumstances there is also a threat to life from fast-flowing or deep floodwater. The Met Office forecasts that today (Monday, May 6) will be a maximum of 15C, and a low of 11C.

On its website, The Met Office says: “A mostly cloudy start to the day with thundery showers, or longer spells of rain, in the south slowly drifting north through the day. Some northern parts staying largely dry. Feeling cool underneath the cloud and rain. Light winds. Maximum temperature 17C.
Whereas tonight will be “cloudy with further spells of rain or showers during the evening, gradually clearing southwards overnight. Becoming drier, with some low cloud, mist and fog patches forming by dawn. Light winds. Minimum temperature 9C”.
