A man from Edgware has been arrested after an alleged ‘targeted attack’ involving a suspicious object saw a residential street evacuated. The 38-year-old was taken into custody two days after a bomb disposal unit descended on a house in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
A second person, a 38-year-old woman from Borehamwood, has also been detained in connection. Police were first called to Cowley Hill at around 12.15pm on Saturday, August 16 following reports of a suspicious object.
Officers put a 100m cordon in place as a precaution, before directing a number of neighbours to a reception centre. Controlled explosions were then carried out following an assessment by the explosive ordnance unit.
The item was declared safe and removed from the scene at 11pm, and displaced residents returned to their properties. The nature of the suspicious object has not yet been confirmed.
Hertfordshire Police says the victim is known to the suspects and they are now treating the incident as a targeted attack.
Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Rachael Robertson added: “I appreciate that this has caused a lot of concern in the local community, and I hope that people are reassured by the news of these two arrests.
“An investigation continues to be carried out locally, so you may see a police presence in the area. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to any of them.”
