A proposal is a significant relationship milestone, with a lot of pressure centred on getting it right. One woman accidentally kept throwing a spanner in the works of her boyfriend’s sunset proposal
A woman nearly ruined her own proposal with a simple, seemingly innocent gesture causing her boyfriend to panic and “stress”. A proposal is a monumental occasion that can come with a lot of pressure. Some people crave an intimate, lowkey proposal while others hope for a theatrical, over-the-top situation.
Most people simply hope proper thought and careful consideration has gone into the milestone moment – and lots of people hope it’s been captured on film so it can be remembered forever. One woman, named Cass, was unknowingly about to be proposed to and kept making the same blunder – and her future fiancé, Gabe, caught it all on video.
In a clip shared on TikTok, the couple can be seen sitting on the edge of a sand dune at the beach, looking out towards the ocean.
Gabe had the ring box hidden in a small bag – but Cass kept moving it out of the way, not knowing he needed easy access to it in order to complete the proposal.
When he moved it back, Cass tried to move it again with Gabe then required to come up with an explanation as to why it ought to stay put.
Cass shared the clip and added text over the top of the footage to provide further insight into the situation. It read: “My boyfriend on his last nerve trying to propose to me but I keep moving the ring not knowing it was in this bag”.
In the caption accompanying the footage, she penned: “Him trying to tell me why the bag needs to stay right here” followed by a string of crying laughing emojis.
The video racked up more than 9.6 million views and 1.1 million likes, as well as thousands of comments from people keen to share their thoughts – and their own proposal blunders. One person said: “You had that man stresssinnnn”.
Another said: “Mission: propose to girlfriend obstacle: girlfriend”. A third joked: “‘Forget it, I’ll propose next year’.”
Someone else said: “Thank God I’m not a man because I would have not proposed at that point.”
Another commented: “That man was *stressed*”.
Others shared their own proposal mishaps. One said: “Moments before my husband proposed at a beautiful sunset at my [favourite] beach I held my hand up and said, ‘huh, too bad I don’t have a ring to enjoy with this view’”.
Another shared: “I signed for my own ring when it came in the mail”.
Someone else confessed: “Mine proposed with a message in a bottle on the beach and he pointed the bottle out but it was in a bag and I said it was someone’s trash and walked away”.
Another person said: “Mine proposed on a “family hike” but I refused to start until they showed up not knowing they were already at the spot hiding…. I thought it was so rude to start without them”.
Someone else added: “The video of my fiancé’s proposal on the beach is over a minute long because I kept turning around to pick up seashells”.
