A Harvard scientist believes he’s cracked the code proving there’s a higher power at work, using a mind-bending scientific formula that’s got social media in a philosophical spin.

The Ivy League astrophysicist Dr Willie Soon has got all the credentials to claim he understands the universe and its forces better than most.

Whilst science and religion have seemingly been at loggerheads over how the universe began for centuries, Dr Soon appears to have bridged the gap between both fields with his theory about the cosmos and how we came to be living on Earth.

Speaking on The Tucker Carlson Network, the Smithsonian scientist laid out his belief in the “fine-tuning argument”.

The concept emphasises just how incredibly precise the universe’s physical conditions are, and how this precision created the almost impossibly unlikely circumstances for life to emerge – far too unlikely to be down to mere chance, reports the Mirror US.

At the core of this argument lies a train of thought first put forward by Cambridge University physicist Paul Dirac back in 1963.

Dirac maintained the mathematical beauty of nature’s laws suggested a higher designer was behind it all.

In his research nearly six decades ago, Dirac added: “It seems to be one of the fundamental features of nature that fundamental physical laws are described in terms of mathematical theory of great beauty and power, needing quite a high standard of mathematics for one to understand it.

“You may wonder: Why is nature constructed along these lines? One can only answer that our present knowledge seems to show that nature is so constructed. We simply have to accept it.

“One could perhaps describe the situation by saying that God is a mathematician of a very high order, and He used very advanced mathematics in constructing the universe.”

Dr Soon mirrors this sentiment on the chat show, saying: “There are so many examples of the ever-present forces that allow us to illuminate our lives. God has given us this light, to follow the light and do the best that we can.”

His reasoning appears to be a more scientific interpretation of the design theory, the one featuring the timepiece comparison we were nearly all taught at school.

The well-known comparison explains this by likening the cosmos to a timepiece. Discovering a timepiece, with its complex workings, suggests a clockmaker. Likewise, the intricacy of the cosmos points to an intelligent creator.

Though not everyone shares Soon’s conviction. A frequent counter-argument to his fine-tuning theory comes in two forms. Firstly, we still possess a very restricted grasp of our cosmos. We function as carbon-based organisms, but in another cosmos, with alternative physical existence built on different elements may occur.

The second counter-argument boils down to chance. Improbable occurrences take place constantly, and with our cosmos’s existence, it is certain that, regardless of how remote the odds were, it still occurred.
