A Surrey landlady is determined to celebrate the good times as she prepares to close the doors on her much loved pub.
The Wheatsheaf in Bramley will shut at the end of the month after eight months of hard work to keep the bar open.
Staff at the pub said they came to the decision with “heavy hearts” but rent, price increases and ongoing roadworks in Bramley had made the business non viable.
The Wheatsheaf is a pub and B&B right in the heart of the village. Its speciality is a wide selection of beers and ales, and well as classic dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
It has impressed since going under new management with one recent customers writing: “The Wheatsheaf in Bramley was so much better than I expected. I took my three children.
“My younger son, 6 years old, loved the outside play area, and I got to sit in a lovely outside garden listening to music. The food was quick, a fair price and everybody enjoyed their meals. We came on a Sunday and had the roast, it was really lovely, homely atmosphere. “
However, despite the sad news, landlords Belinda and Tom are looking to focus on the positives, and go out with a bang.
A closing party is planned for Saturday, August 30 from 4pm-12.30am with half price drinks and live music. The pub will then close on Sunday, August 31.
As well as this the darts team has been making its mark winning the division 2 darts league, and with a whopping 10 points more than 2nd place.
Belinda said: “We feel very proud we did this in our time at the Wheatsheaf as the pub has never won the league in its history but has competed every year .”
Belinda also went on to thank the staff at the pub for their hard work during this turbulent time, as well as their efforts to stick together and keep fighting.
The future of the pub itself remains uncertain, but there are currently no more tenants lined up to take over. This means as of this moment the pub’s closure is permanent.
