I’ve had a first look at one of Yankee Candle’s 2025 advent calendar offerings, and it’ll keep my home smelling great throughout the whole of December, says our beauty editor
It may still seem early in the year to be discussing the C-word but advent calendars have already starting hitting the shelves (we swear it gets earlier and earlier every year!). If you want a change from the typical chocolate calendars or bumper beauty offerings, ones filled with candles make lovely treats throughout December. I’ve had an early look at this year’s Yankee Candle one, and think it’s excellent value for money.
Yankee Candle is selling two different ones this year, which both went on sale today: the bigger Fragrance Lover’s Book Advent Calendar, priced at £49.99, and the more affordable 24 Days of Fragrance Wreath Advent Calendar, which is the one I’ve got, and which contains 24 little candles. Usually priced at £28.99, it’s currently on sale for £22.95 on Boots at the moment, meaning that each candle costs you just 95p.

Sure, it might not be the flashiest or most luxe calendar on the shelves, but what I love about this one is that you’re guaranteed to use all the products inside; no duds or products left to gather dust in a drawer. Each day gives you a different scented tea light, which you can pop into the holder that you get behind door number one. Each little candle will burn for a good few hours, ensuring that your home will smell amazing every day in December up to Christmas Day.
The eight different fragrances inside are all Yankee classics, and I think genuinely smell lovely; favourites are Amber & Sandalwood and Silver Sage & Pine, which are slightly less sweet than some of the others like Christmas Cookie and Cinnamon Stick.
The calendar packaging also gets extra points for how easy it is to recycle afterwards. Although it’s not one you’re going to be able to reuse year after year, it’s all cardboard and so easily recyclable after 24 December, and squashes down fairly flat. I like that the illustrations are traditionally festive, too.
If I could make one improvement to it, it’s that I would have liked to have seen a ‘special’ candle behind door number 24, perhaps a slightly bigger one. As it is, you get the same tea light behind the last door as you do the first.
However, if you love (or are buying for someone who loves) home fragrance and can’t splash out on the luxury fragrance brand calendars such as Jo Malone London and Diptyque, this Yankee Candle one makes a lovely treat.
Alternatively if you want to spend £50 instead, go for Yankee’s Fragrance Lover’s Book Advent Calendar which contains 12 tea lights and 12 votive candles.
