Princess Kate has taken time out of her summer holiday in Balmoral to pay tribute to the life of a young teenager on what would’ve been her 18th birthday.

The Princess of Wales honoured the life of Liz Hatton, with whom she met during an emotional engagement at Windsor Castle in October 2024 just one month before she died of cancer, with a post on social media to commemorate the emotional day.

Taking to the Kensington Royal Instagram page, William and Kate shared a photo of a photograph on display on an easel at Windsor Castle in England, alongside a caption explaining its significance. It comes after Princess Diana’s brother’s heartbreaking ‘impossible’ post on 28th anniversary.

“Remembering Liz Hatton today on what would have been her 18th birthday. The photo shown in this image was taken by Liz during an Investiture at Windsor Castle in October 2024, and is on display today in the spot where it was taken,” they wrote.

When the teenager was diagnosed with an aggressive desmoplastic small round cell tumor, she created a bucket list where she expressed her wish to meet Princess Kate.

Liz and her family travelled to Windsor in October 2024, just one month before the teen’s tragic passing, where Kate was pictured giving Hatton an emotional hug. Kate, who announced her own cancer diagnosis in March 2024, and Liz focused on their shared love of photography and their battles against cancer.

The teen was joined at the investiture by her mother, stepfather Aaron and brother Mateo, and afterwards she was invited to have tea with Prince William and Kate. Liz said of meeting the royals at the time: “I never thought I would get to do anything as massive as this. When I did my bucket list I just put some ideas down. I didn’t even think any of these things would happen.”

After Hatton’s death in November 2024, the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote in a statement, “We are so sorry to hear that Liz Hatton has sadly passed away. It was an honour to have met such a brave and humble young woman.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Liz’s parents Vicky and Aaron and her brother Mateo at this unimaginably difficult time,” they added.

Back in March, Kate and William shared an inspiring tribute to Hatton on International Women’s Day to celebrate “the strength and creativity of Liz and [her mother] Vicky Hatton.”

“It was an honour meeting them both in Windsor in October,” the couple wrote in the caption, as they remembered Hatton for her “unwavering resilience.”
