A woman was left floored when she opened a ‘mystery box’ from Shein which set her back just over 50p. She couldn’t believe what was inside compared to the promised contents
When a woman ordered a Shein ‘mystery box’ at checkout, she was excited to see what little trinkets she might receive. Thamara Carvalho said that she was buying “a few items” from the budget retailer, then was tempted by the addition of the mystery box, as it set her back just “62 cents (56p)”.
“It said surprise blind box, completely random, and I’m like, yes, you know, it’s like I’m paying for my own Christmas gift. Let’s do it,” Thamara explained. She shared that there were a few mystery boxes that you could choose from, so she opted for the “bracelets and jewellery” box.
“Why not?” she queried while adding it to her bag. But later on, she found out the reason she should’ve abstained from the purchase.
Thamara shared: “All of a sudden, I get a box from Target, and I was like, I did not order anything from Target”.
She wondered how someone had her full name, address, and her phone number, as the courier was ringing her as they couldn’t get into her apartment block gates.
“I was like, how does Target have all this information?” she continued, referring to the situation as “so random”.
Finally, she managed to retrieve the parcel that was meant for her, and she opened it.
“Inside the box was this,” she fumed, as she lifted up a glue stick to show to the camera, and she burst out laughing in fits of giggles.
However, she hadn’t added two and two together at this point and was convinced someone had ordered something from her account. Admittedly, she was confused as to why it would be a glue stick, but she had no other explanation.
But she then noticed that her Shein mystery package said that it had been delivered.
She contacted customer service to say it had been delivered but it wasn’t there, saying that she couldn’t find the mystery box anywhere.
“I went to check on the UPS tracking system, and it says it was delivered, it had a picture, and then the picture is the Target box,” she explained.
“How is Shein delivering stuff from Target? I guess if you’re going to get a mystery box from Shein and it says that it’s a bracelet, expect to get something from Target, and I got some glue sticks,” Thamara joked.
However, in the comments, one woman explained that she’d ordered four of the mystery boxes and managed to hit the jackpot with some of them.
She wrote that she got: “Box 1 Father’s Day flag. Box 2 perfume. Box 3 gold costume jewellery, including necklaces and a ring. Box 4 , beaded kids jewellery”.
Thamara replied: “This is actually so good!! You got so lucky”.
According to Shein’s website, the mystery boxes could include anything from “1,000 unique, random items”.
