As Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis returned to school this week, the Princess of Wales paid a special tribute to her royal children with a custom accessory
This week, kids across the nation put on their new shoes and ironed uniforms as they headed back to school after the summer holidays. Among those were the royal children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, with their mum, Kate, Duchess of Wales, donning a special tribute for the occasion.
The young royals, George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, returned to Lambrook School on Wednesday, 3 September, just 15 minutes from their Windsor family home, Adelaide Cottage. It marks a special curriculum year for George as it’ll be his last before attending secondary school, and the last year that all three kids will be at the same school.

The day after they returned to school, the Princess of Wales, 43, debuted her new blonde locks and visited London’s Natural History Museum alongside her husband, the Prince of Wales. Kate, who is a patron of the museum, donned a relaxed shirt and blazer ensemble for the engagement, displaying her striking new hair colour as she arrived with Prince William.
But that wasn’t the only eye-capturing feature of her look, as Kate also wore a delicate gold necklace in a sweet nod to her children. The necklace features charms with her children’s initials, ‘G’, ‘C’ and ‘L’, all placed in their birth order to make up the custom jewellery.
Kate has been spotted wearing the sentimental accessory on various occasions, including during a trip with William to the Scottish Isles of Mull and Iona in April. The Gold Fixed Alphabet Necklace by Daniella Draper is worth £495.
She has previously layered the custom piece with a bespoke Gold Trio Diamond Midnight Moon necklace by the same designer. This piece, retailing for £1,300, is engraved with ‘G’, ‘C’ and ‘L along with three diamonds, in another touching tribute.
Daniella, the British designer, previously told PEOPLE: “The Duchess of Cambridge [now Princess of Wales] is an incredible role model – I look up to her as a young woman and a mother.
“Seeing her wearing one of my designs was a very proud moment. Everyone in the workshop thinks it’s just amazing. It’s good morale!”
The designer added: “It’s a piece that I designed with myself in mind. I wear it every day, as does my mum and sister. It’s becoming one of our best sellers and it can be personalised in so many ways.”
During their royal visit on Thursday, 4 September, Kate and William were scheduled to accompany children participating in ‘pond dipping’ activities, hunting for newts and toads at the Nature Discovery Garden. However, moments after the primary school pupils from Kender Primary School, New Cross, south London, turned up to meet the royal guests, they were drenched by an enormous and unexpected deluge.
Kate and William offered their umbrellas before abandoning the outdoor pursuit and ushering the children to shelter at the neighbouring Nature Activity Centre. The princess guided several youngsters, while William managed those at the back as the children splashed through puddles, attempting to keep out of the rain.
