A couple were delighted to get the keys to their first ever home after being ousted from the property they’d rented for six years, but they weren’t expecting what they found in the garden
A couple who have recently moved into their first home after years of renting decided to tackle their overgrown garden but made a startling discovery. Getting the keys to your first after the stress and hassle of mortgage applications, surveys, enquiries and more can be a huge cause for celebration.
For first time buyers, there’s the added joy of being allowed to make significant decisions regarding the décor and overall appearance of the property. Scottish couple Jack and Hannah were given just 87 days to leave the rented accommodation they’d lived in for six years, and managed to find and secure their first ever home.
The husband and wife duo got the keys on August 11 and, since then, have been working to make the property their own. While out in their garden to tackle piles of leftover rubbish and random items, they had assumed a simple, quick fix was on the cards but this quickly turned out to be far from the truth.
After lifting a pile of debris up from the garden, they discovered a large hole – and they have no idea what it was used for.
The couple have been documenting their home buying experiences on social media and shared the video of the hole’s discovery on TikTok where it has, so far, amassed more than two million views.
In text overlaying the footage, Jack and Hannah penned: “Thinking that we just need to remove rubbish from the garden”.
In the caption accompanying the clip, they elaborated: “Yep.. that’s a big crater sized hole in the garden that was hidden by various things in the garden that we thought just needed to go to the tip! So there’s another thing to add to our ever growing list of jobs and things to do”.
In the comments section, people were keen to share their thoughts. One person confessed: “I know I have issues because I immediately assumed body.”
Another suggested: “Beginning of a mini pond for dragon fly or fish or plants” while a third said: “It’s a den entrance!”
Another commented: “You can build a pond!”
And another said: “Perfect for composting”.
Someone else said: “That’s a grave. Please call the police”.
Jack and Hannah replied: “If there was any kind of remains or anything else to assume it was a grave then 100% would! But as there’s a water pipe and the house has had history of leaks and water damage we’re going to assume it’s that”.
In a follow up video, the couple offered a more in-depth “tour” of the hole. In the caption accompanying the footage, they added: “Today we venture inside the hole to find… a drain pipe and some rocks. Not very exciting but it’s still definitely a mystery that we’re still going to be trying to think about what it could be”.
