A Metropolitan Police cop with a ‘beautiful soul’ died during a horror crash in Essex last week. PC Louie Day, 23, died on the scene after his black Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a tree between Chelmsford and Ongar just before 3.30am last Friday (September 5). It is not thought any other vehicles were involved. The road was closed during the investigation and while the car was recovered; it has since reopened.
Louie’s family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son Louie Day, a beautiful soul has left this world and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. We would now like some privacy to grieve in peace.” Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell said: “The Metropolitan Police are saddened to learn of the death of a serving police officer, following a collision in Essex on Friday, 5 September.
“Police Constable Louie Day, 23 worked as a response officer on the East Area Command, based from Barking and Dagenham. He joined the team in January, having previously served for two years as a PCSO. My deepest condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues of PC Louie Day. Louie was popular amongst his colleagues who are devastated to hear of his passing.
“We continue to support Essex Police with their investigation and thank them for the support they are providing to Louie’s family at this difficult time. Louie’s family remain in our thoughts.”
Inspector Mark Fraser said: “My thoughts are with Louie’s friends, family and colleagues at this really difficult time. Specialist officers are continuing to support his family and we are working to give them the answers they need about what led up to his death. We do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the collision and continue to appeal for anyone who saw or has footage of what happened or the moments which led up to it to get in contact.”
