The Superloop network could soon be expanded with a express bus between Barnet and Ealing, Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed. Plans put forward by the authority propose running a new double-decker route – SL13 – from the Hendon War Memorial to Ealing Broadway in a bid to speed up journey times.

The London bus service would run seven days a week, and utilise a limited number of key stops and rail interchanges. Supporting documents show these are likely to be Hendon Central, Brent Cross Shopping Centre, Staples Corner, Ardley Close, Neasden Shopping Centre, Brentfield Road, Harrow Road and Hanger Lane Tube station.

Passengers would be able to travel from 5am to 12.30, with buses running every 12 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes. They would then depart every 15 minutes all evenings, on Sundays, and on early morning weekdays.

In Hendon, the SL13 would start and end at Hendon War Memorial, and in Ealing Broadway its start and end point would be Haven Green. As a result, TfL is also proposing extending existing route E7 to make room for the SL13 in the latter.

This would see buses travel further along New Broadway in Ealing to serve The Mall and Uxbridge Road, and terminate at Ealing Common. The section between Ruislip Station and New Broadway would not change, though it would no longer run via Spring Bridge Road, Haven Green and the north-south part of The Broadway by Ealing Broadway Station.

The SL13 would also operate alongside other local bus routes, such as routes 112 and 232. Between Hendon and Ealing, the route would increase the number and frequency of buses in the area, says TfL.

The Superloop launched in 2023 to provide more transport options to outer Londoners. There are currently ten routes in service with new route BL1 between Waterloo and Lewisham town centre due to start operating this autumn.

Two new routes, the SL11 between North Greenwich and Abbey Wood, and SL12 between Gants Hill and Rainham, will be added to the network at some point in 2026. More than 1.86 billion were journeys made on Superloop buses in 2023/2024 alone, according to TfL data.

TfL is running a consultation period on the plans until Wednesday, October 22. For more information, or to share your views, visit the Have Your Say website.
