Princess Anne, the Queen’s only daughter, has been named as one of the richest members of the Royal Family, with a vast fortune that she has been ‘quietly amassing’
Princess Anne has been “quietly amassing” a vast fortune despite her “frugal” persona, yet remains the “best value for money” for the Royal Family, it’s been claimed. In a new documentary exploring royal wealth, Channel 5 filmmakers compiled a list of the 10 richest members of the Firm, spanning Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, to King Charles.
It’s worth noting that some positions were occupied by more than one person (eg Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice in slot eight) in ‘The Royal Rich List 2025’.
Yet, coming in at number five and enjoying a rank all to herself was the “notoriously thrifty” Princess Royal.
Starting Anne’s segment, the narrator said: “Next on our royal rich list is the notoriously thrifty princess, who has been quietly amassing a fortune. At number five, it’s Princess Anne.”
Charlotte Griffiths, the editor at large for the Mail on Sunday said: “Princess Anne is the best value for money the Royal Family has. She works more than any other working member of the Royal Family, and she’s completely frugal. I don’t think she’s been on a shopping trip for decades.”
A passionate equestrian and the second child and only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Anne was a working Royal by the tender age of 21 and had already earned an astonishing salary. In 1971, her starting salary was believed to be around £100,000 in today’s money.
However, when she tied the knot with her ex-husband, Mark Phillips (she later wed former Royal Navy officer Timothy Laurence), her wealth would “really start to grow”.
Her wedding alone reportedly cost a whopping £200,000, and she was gifted the sprawling 730-acre Gatcombe Park estate, which was thought to be worth about £750,000 at the time she secured it but is now valued at an eye-watering £6million.
Despite her “thrifty” persona, Anne has another, more “surprising, sparkling source of wealth”. Indeed, the Princess Royal is thought to have a dazzling £5million collection of jewellery.
Included in this impressive stash is a pearl necklace (gifted to her by Queen Elizabeth) worth £1million and a substantial collection of tiaras, including the Diamond Festoon Tiara, the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, and the Meander Tiara.
Another notable piece of bling is a diamond piece that Queen Mary received from the City of London. Aptly named the City of London Choker, the item was reportedly a favourite of Queen Mary, formerly Mary of Teck and Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother.
Anne, often referred to as the hardest working royal, has completed more than 11,000 official engagements over the course of her five-decade career, equating to a reported total salary of roughly £16.6million.
To sum up, the filmmakers noted that the Princess Royal’s reported net worth today is believed to be about £12million.
