Two of the most celebrated forecasters of future events, Baba Vanga and Nostradamus, both predicted a catastrophe would occur this year that could spell the downfall of the human race
Whether you believe that certain people have psychic powers allowing them to see into the future or think the concept is a load of old tosh, it’s hard to dispute that two of history’s biggest names in the arena have been bang on point with some of their predictions.
Blind mystic Baba Vanga and 16th century astrologer Nostradamus both appear to have foreseen some of the world’s most infamous events. Baba’s followers believe she predicted the death of Princess Diana, knew the 9/11 attacks would take place and that the Covid-19 pandemic would erupt.
Nostradamus is said to have correctly anticipated the death of King Henry II in his 1555 book Les Prophéties, which is a collection of numerous cryptic poems that allegedly predict future events. Some believe he foresaw the Great Fire of London in 1666 and others say he predicted the rise of Adolf Hitler in his writings.

Worryingly both of the potential psychics made similar claims about the year 2025, which – depending on your level of scepticism – could be seen to be coming true before our very eyes. Bulgarian Baba, who in 1990 correctly claimed she herself would die on 11 August 1996 at the age of 84, said she saw a war breaking out in Europe this year and that it would mark the beginning of “humanity’s downfall”.
She reportedly said: “In the spring, a war in the East will begin and there will be a third World War. A war in the East that will destroy the West,” and said Putin would become “lord of the world” and Europe would turn into “wasteland”. She is also said to have predicted: “Russia will not only survive, it will dominate the world”.
In a worrying development this week, the first ever direct engagement between Russia and NATO since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Poland shot down Russian suicide drones after Putin’s forces “repeatedly violated” its airspace during an overnight attack on Ukraine. Millions of Polish citizens were warned to take shelter and some damage to buildings occurred, although thankfully no one was hurt.
The NATO nation described the violation as an “act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens”. Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk issued a grave warning about the escalation of conflict with Russia following the strikes on his nation early this morning. He said: “This situation brings us the closest we have been to open conflict since World War Two”.
The country triggered NATO Article 4, which allows any member to formally consult the alliance when it believes its territorial integrity, political independence, or security is threatened. Nato secretary general Mark Rutte issued a direct message to Putin on what he described as a “reckless” act. “Stop the war in Ukraine, stop escalating the war, which he is now basically mounting on innocent civilians and civilian infrastructure, and stop violating allied airspace,” he instructed. “Know that we stand ready, that we are vigilant, and that we will defend every inch of Nato territory,” he added.
As well as Baba’s European vision, believers will point to Nostradamus’ writings about the continent, which also foresee devastating wars, especially for England. “When those from the lands of Europe see England set up her throne behind her flanks, there will be cruel wars,” he stated. “The kingdom will be marked by wars so cruel, foes from within and without will arise. A great pestilence from the past returns, no enemy more deadly under the skies.”
Commenting on last night’s events Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said he believed Putin was becoming more aggressive because he faced no retaliation from the West. “Putin just keeps escalating, expanding his war, and testing the West,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The longer he faces no strength in response, the more aggressive he gets. A weak response now will provoke Russia even more – and then Russian missiles and drones will fly even further into Europe,” he added.
