While shopping at Aldi, have you ever taken the time to take an extra good luck at their price tags? Odds are you haven’t, as you’d probably just glance at the price before inspecting the products.

One Aldi shopper has only just made a discovery while inspecting the price tags, as they are quite different to other supermarkets – and it’s blown them away. It turns out he wasn’t the only one who didn’t know the fact, which became clear after sharing it online.

Taking to TikTok, content creator Vernon, known as V10Vernon, said he was “today year’s old” when he found out that Aldi has electronic price tags on their products. Filming in the ‘special buys’ section, Vernon said it “doesn’t look real, but it is”. Filming the tags, he explained: “They are in fact electric. There’s no paper or cardboard behind them. If you look at them closely, sometimes you can see them glitching.”

Vernon asked an employee in the store who confirmed they were indeed electronic. “How mad is that? Mind blown,” he added. And he wasn’t the only one who had no idea.

“How have I only just found this out?” asked one person. Another added: “Didn’t half know this! That’ll be the family story when I go my mum’s. Like, hey did you know in Aldi…” And a third commented: “I didn’t know that and it doesn’t affect my life but OMG I can’t wait it go Aldi and check.”

Another person claimed: “I’ve actually seen the price change while I was shopping.” This apparently happened to someone else, who said: “Saw one change in front if my eyes once… Was eyeing up some cakes at £1.99, picked them up to ask my daughter if she would have one with me, she asked how much ad I pointed to the tag and said £1.99. It changed to £1.49.. thought I was magic for a second.”

Meanwhile, someone else claimed it’s the same in Lidl, and added: “I work in Lidl and when I work stock on a morning and they flash and glitch before they come on. It’s proper freaky.

However, it turns out some people already knew this nifty fact. “Already knew that for a few years now,” said one person. “I thought everyone knew that,” said another. “At this point in 2025, how does anyone not know this?” asked another.
