A woman was looking forward to a morning walk when she felt something in her shoe. When she took it off to investigate, she was left feeling repulsed and on edge by what she realised was inside. Many people choose to leave their shoes in dark, damp spaces like garages but this can leave them more exposed to unwanted bugs and critters.
This was the case for Kate Hughes, who left a pair of trainers in the garage all night long then, in the morning, when she slipped them on ahead of a stroll, she felt something lurking. When she kicked her shoe off, she realised a large roach was inside – and she caught her reaction on her video doorbell camera.
Cockroaches are well known pests in certain parts of the world, with around 30 cockroach species out of 4,600 commonly associated with human habitats. Many people have an aversion to their presence.
Kate, an American, shared her own reaction to finding a roach in her shoe on TikTok. In the footage, she can be seen leaving her house and standing on a doormat outside her front door when she feels something in her shoe.
She takes her shoe off and looks inside before throwing it onto the floor and saying, “Oh my God, oh my God.”
The camera then zooms in as a large roach climbs out and walks across her laces. Over the top of the clip, Kate added the text: “Felt something in my shoe this morning”.
In the caption accompanying the video, she elaborated: “Biggest fear of keeping my shoes in the garage came true! Let’s just say I did not go on a morning walk!!”
In the comments section, people were quick to share their thoughts. One person said: “This is why I bang my shoes out every time before I put them on”.
While another added: “You always shake your shoes out before you put them on. Rule instilled to me as a kid.”
A third shared: “I live in Greece and it happened to me with a cockroach and a centipede (twice)”, adding a sobbing face emoji.
A fourth advised: “don’t leave shoes outside.”
Someone else commented: “That would have ended my entire day before it even got started. Yep. Staying inside”.
A further person also said: “I saw a show on discovery channel in the 90s, lady was bit by black widow in her shoe, since then I shake & check my shoes and gloves because why not”.
While someone else chimed in: “My neighbours would have called the cops from how loud I would be screaming”.
One more added: “One time I left my shoes outside and when I put them on there was a SLUG inside and I was BAREFOOT. It was literally 40 years ago and I’ve never recovered.”
