Donald Trump arrived in Britain last night, with the Prince and Princess of Wales welcoming him to Windsor this morning (Wednesday, September 17).

The US President, accompanied by his wife Melania Trump, are due to hold talks with King Charles and Queen Camilla this afternoon. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that members of the public will be unable to greet the couple during their British state visit, with all their official functions taking place within the privacy of the Windsor estate.

The 79-year-old’s first state visit to the UK in 2019 reportedly cost the British taxpayer millions, as well as triggering protests and criticism. It is expected that the current visit could even surpass the eye-watering figure.

The President’s first state trip to the UK required a staggering £3.9 million [$5.3m] as security measures were heightened to safeguard the divisive leader, reports the Express. Given that the inaugural visit occurred over six years ago, today’s costs are anticipated to surpass £5 million.

Preparations commenced earlier this week as a 7ft barrier was observed being constructed around Windsor Castle’s perimeter.

The extensive security arrangements follow President Trump’s previous assassination attempt last July – mere days before he was due to accept the Republican presidential nomination. Additionally, last week saw right-wing activist Charlie Kirk fatally shot.

Regarding the Princess of Wales, a source has suggested that both Donald and Melania were “thrilled” that the Royal is assuming such a significant role in their visit.

As per the Mail, an insider revealed: “The President and First Lady are thrilled that the Princess of Wales will play such a prominent role in their visit. The inclusion of Princess Kate in so many events during the state visit is an honour.”

The insider added: “The Trumps very much hoped she would be part of their visit, but nothing was confirmed until this week because of the princess’s health situation.”
