A lip reader has disclosed what Prince Andrew said to Prince William after the Duchess of Kent’s funeral, in a conversation that allegedly left the Prince of Wales “livid.”

The Duke of York, 65, and his former wife Sarah Ferguson turned heads with their unexpected presence at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday, sparking audible reactions from onlookers.

While other senior royals maintained solemn expressions, Andrew was captured on camera chuckling and grinning, behaviour that reportedly sparked friction with Prince William.

Video footage of Prince Andrew attempting to chat with his nephew following the service has circulated widely across social media, leaving many curious about the exact words exchanged.

In the recording, Andrew can be seen repeatedly trying to draw William into dialogue, even flashing a grin after one remark, reports the Express. Nevertheless, despite his efforts, Prince William does not acknowledge his uncle.

A lip reader has now disclosed what Andrew allegedly said to William during the brief private encounter. According to Jeremy Freeman, the Duke of York commented: “…we had a lovely time in those days, didn’t we… I remember those days.”

Royal biographer Andrew Lownie told the Mirror that Prince William was “furious” at being cornered by his uncle during the poignant ceremony.

“He has been at pains to distance himself from his uncle and not be photographed with him,” Lownie said. “He believes his father has not dealt with him with sufficient firmness and that Andrew – and Sarah Ferguson – have done much to undermine the good work of other members of the royal family.”

The Duke of York faced allegations of sexual abuse from Virginia Giuffre, one of paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein’s most high-profile victims. Father-of-two Andrew has vehemently denied these claims.

His Majesty was among royal family members on Tuesday, September 16, for the moving send-off to the Duchess of Kent.

The congregation packed Westminster Cathedral for the requiem mass, a Catholic service—the first of its kind for a royal family member in contemporary British history.

A heartfelt message from the Pope, commending the duchess’s “devoted care for vulnerable people,” was incorporated into the deeply spiritual ceremony.

Pope Leo XIV’s tribute was delivered to those gathered by Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, the Vatican’s diplomatic envoy in the UK, who emphasised the duchess’s “legacy of Christian goodness.”

A deeply faithful Roman Catholic, the duchess made history as the first royal family member to embrace Catholicism in over 300 years, converting in 1994. She had requested her funeral take place at Westminster Cathedral.
