American mum Brianna has lived in the UK with her family for three years, but there are still some things that she misses about her former life across the pond

An American woman who’s lived in the UK for three years has shared four things that she would like to change about the UK.

Moving to a new country can be hard, especially when you’re met with a number of culture shocks that you may not have anticipated. This may include having to change things as simple as your eating habits, or the way you communicate with people. One American – named Brianna – moved to the UK with her family three years ago. Since then, she has used social media to share snippets of her life as her family has adapted to life in the UK. However, there are still things they miss about the US.

Taking to TikTok, where she have over 59,400 followers, Brianna has shared four things that she would like to change about the UK, as she went on to claim that these things in the US are better.

“Things I would change about the UK as an American living in the UK,” she said at the start of her video before jumping in to her list.

1. Size of fridges and freezers

“I would definitely be have [sic] a bigger refrigerator,” Brianna said. “I do miss the American refrigerators at times, because it’s so much bigger, especially when you have a bigger family like we do.”

“And also when it comes to meal prepping, cause meal prepping takes up so much room. And then the freezer, it is so itty bitty here, so that’d be one thing I would change.”

2. Store hours

“I also would change stores hours,” Brianna said. “I’m used to it now, and so we plan ahead, and so like we’ve adjusted.”

However, she went on to say that she misses the stores in the US that are open 24/7, adding that she loved the convenience of them.

“And I feel bad for everyone who has to work an off shift, not a normal nine to five type of job, and like so I’m kind of wondering how are they adapt, especially if you have a busy life on their day off,” she said as she wondered how people managed to find time to go to the shops.

3. More sockets in homes

“Sockets. I’m actually really shocked still about how few sockets [there] are in each room,” she said for her third point. “America’s like literally double that amount.”

She went on to say that there were ‘no sockets’ in the hallways of her house, which is a big struggle for when she needs to hoover those rooms. She went on to claim that instead of just having a socket to plug the hoover into in the specific hallway, she has to climb over big furniture pieces, like a bed, or a rocking chair in her case, to get to a socket.

“So climbing over that, trying to plug in that hoover in the hallway, which you can only do halfway because most of the extensions is in the bedroom. So it’s hysterical, honestly,” she said. “But yeah, that’s something I’d change, to have more sockets.”

4. Bigger parking spaces

For her fourth and final point, Brianna said: “Bigger parking spaces, or I’d have more of those – I love how you guys have like the family parking spaces. Those are so helpful.”

She went on to say that she would like more parking spaces of that size, as she claimed it was helpful for getting the kids in and out of the car.

“I don’t mind if you put them in the back row, I’ll park as far away, I’d just like a bit more [space] trying to get my toddler in and out, especially when she was an infant,” she said, saying her baby’s car seat used to take up a lot of space. “So yeah, I’d change that too.”

“But you know, overall, I’ve adapted so much since I’ve been here, and I love it and I’ve been here for over three years, so it’s not a big deal. But yeah, I mean, there’s some things that are more convenient in America that would be nicer here, and vice versa, obviously.

People soon took to the comment section of the video, with many Brits pointing out that some of these things on her list are already available in the UK/

“In 59 years in 12 different houses there has been sockets in the hallways. Big fridges are available if you have the room. We have 24 hour supermarkets,” one person pointed out.

Another person said: “No sockets in a hallway? That’s a your house problem, not a UK problem.”
