Police have described the incident as ‘highly alarming’

Police have released an image of a man they would like to speak to after a woman was assaulted by an intruder who tried to force their way into her home. The reported incident took place at around 11.40pm on Wednesday, July 30 in New Cavendish Street, Westminster.

When the victim was in the corridor of her apartment building she allegedly encountered a person she did not know. After challenging him, the man followed her to her flat where he covered her mouth with his hand and tried to force his way inside.

The victim’s partner was in the flat and chased the intruder away before he could get into the property. Police have now released CCTV images of who they believe to be the suspect.

He is described by police as white, 5ft9in and balding, wearing a grey t-shirt and blue jeans. He was also later filmed wearing a brown hoody. The victim describes him as speaking with a non-British accent – possibly Australian, Kiwi or Scandinavian.

Police are appealing to anyone who recognises the suspect, or has information, to call the them on 101, quoting 8868/JUL. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, to make a 100% anonymous report.

Detective Constable Chunjie Zang, from the Met’s Central West Borough Command Unit, said: “This was a highly alarming incident, which has left the victim and her family in distress.

“Nobody should face such a threat in their own home. We can confirm that no similar incidents have been reported in the area, but we are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice. Can you help?”
