Mum shares ‘real reason’ for buying baby monitor and it’s not what you think

Baby monitors can be a useful and essential tool for many parents, allowing them to check in on their baby when they’re in a different room but one mum has another use for hers

A mum has shared the “real” reason she bought a baby monitor and it’s got many people agreeing with her while others are in stitches. Baby monitors are essential tools for parents, allowing them to keep an eye on their child when they’re in a different room than them.

They also allow parents to check in on their child during the night, with many devices incorporating high definition cameras to provide live video footage, as well as sound. Others even cover health metrics like heart rate and movement.

One mum caused a stir after joking about the “real” reason she installed a baby monitor in her children’s room. Alice Rose Bennett has two daughters, both under two years old, with her partner, and often documents her experiences of motherhood on social media.

In a recent video posted to TikTok, her partner can be seen laying on one of their daughter’s beds and scrolling on his phone. It looks as though he might be on Snapchat.

Alice watched him via the baby monitor and recorded the screen on her phone. She then zoomed in to get a closer look at his phone.

Over the top of the clip, she added text which reads: “The real reason I got a baby monitor”.

The video clearly struck a chord with fellow social media users, racking up more than 4.8 million views, over 161K likes, thousands of saves and hundreds of comments.

TikTok users were keen to share their thoughts. One person said: “I don’t have a baby but I will be buying one!!”

Another asked: “Is that snapchat? It should be illegal to have snapchat past 21”.

A third said: “No reason why grown adults have Snapchat. I’d be skeptical of every single one.”

Someone else commented: “Petition to buy this girl a 4k baby monitor because I’m nosy”.

Another confessed: “Not me zooming in to try and read the messages”.

Others were eager to share similar experiences of their own. One TikTok user confessed “Got his passcode on my Ring door bell when he was sitting outside underneath it”.

Another revealed: “I found out my ex husband was cheating from the Ring cameras. Money well spent if you ask me”.

And another said: “Girllllll…. I caught my ex [husband’s] affair via the monitor in our living room… he was talking to her on the phone!!”

But someone else commented: “I know this is probably a joke but I’d rather be single than resort to this type of stuff again [upside down smile emoji] my heart sank for you girl.”

Another asked: “What’s the update? Do we like him or hate him?”

In a follow up comment, Alice confirmed her partner wasn’t doing anything sneaky or untoward – he was messaging his lads’ group chat.
