A man has been left scratching his head after making an unexpected discovery in his 1920s home – and now he’s asking for expert help to solve the mystery so he can sleep in peace

A man was left gobsmacked after stumbling upon a hidden safe in his 1920s home – and now he’s on the hunt for an expert to help crack the “mystery.” After moving into his new house, he unearthed a safe buried in the floor whilst laying new foundations.

Amazed with his find, he turned to social media to ask users for their assistance in identifying the safe, hoping it might lead him to the combination needed to unlock it. The man, from San Francisco, California, posted on Reddit: “We uncovered this safe while digging up our foundation. Home built in the 1920s. Anyone know the brand and/or how to go about opening it? We will break the concrete around it to get it out as we can’t lift it out. Would be fun to figure out the manufacturer.

“Didn’t see any matching photos on Google when I did a bunch of searches. Once out, we’ll shake it to see if we can tell whether anything is inside.”

He’s been daydreaming about what treasures could be locked away inside – and probably won’t be able to get a good night’s sleep until he finds out the truth!

The Redditor mused: “I’m hoping someone grew old and forgot the safe even existed.. We are busting up the whole floor, so we’ll have it in our possession in a day or two. Sort of like a lottery ticket. The fun is in the ‘what if’ right up until the balls are pulled and the numbers don’t match.”

One user, commenting on the discovery, said: “I do real estate development, and we’ve found safes a couple of times. One floor safe like this and another big safe in an old hotel. The locksmith was able to get into both of them. Didn’t find anything, but money well spent to dream.”

Another added: “In 30 years of locksmithing, I’ve never opened a mystery safe that had anything in it.

“Previous owners emptied the safe before moving out, because of course they did. But who knows, this might be the one stuffed full of Krugerrands squirreled away by an old reclusive millionaire who died with no heirs to look for the safe..”

A third chimed in: “I definitely wouldn’t be busting out the concrete unless that was already the plan. Have a locksmith take a crack at it. I’d personally keep it if possible, or just cover it with a fresh pour.”

Yet another user stated: “If we found something like this in my house, my kids would be hating my response that we should just let it be.

“As long as it stays unopened, it can have the most riches in the world we can imagine. Once you open it, you break the fantasy. There’s nothing in there. Wanna know why?”.

“People don’t put things in safes and then forget them when they move. Yeah, I’m sure it does happen, but for the most part, it’s personally important stuff – not likely to be left behind.

“Birth certificates, etc. If you come across a safe that was hidden, whatever is inside is long gone already – unless you’re at a police raid.”
