Shoppers described the cordless trimmer as a ‘brilliant piece of kit’ and it’s currently almost half price in Gtech’s autumn sale
Black Friday often sees great deals on power tools and garden gadgets, but shoppers keen to tackle their hedges this winter are rushing to Gtech’s ‘almost half price’ autumn sale, which has hefty savings on a host of essential tools. The brand, which was started in 2001 from a small garage by founder Nick Grey, is now many shoppers’ go-to company for home and garden appliances such as vacuum cleaners, grass trimmers and hedge cutters.
Cutting hedges can be a tricky process, especially with issues such as long leads and safety concerns like needing to climb up on ladders. However, some of those issues can be solved with the Gtech’s Long Reach Hedge Trimmer HT50, which is now £129.99 down from £249.99 if buyers order in the sale before October 30th and uses the code XH69 at checkout – saving themselves over £100.
What makes this trimmer stand out is the fact that it’s cordless, so there are no worries about running out of cable or getting tangled up in cords. It also can help prevent accidents happening due to its 50cm blade, which works out 50% longer than their previous model, that can reach over 10 foot.

“The longer blade on the HT50 came about through our own engineers’ home testing,” founder Nick Grey said on the website. “We recognised that if you could cut more area at once, you’d spend less time working and have more time to enjoy your garden – ideal!”
The electric trimmer has an extended run time in comparison to previous models, offering 60 minutes use on one charge. Although it is lightweight (2.9kg), it has a strong 18 volt motor and can be carried easily thanks to its integrated shoulder strap harness. It also comes with a safety switch on the side of the handle for any emergencies.

It also prevents an accidents happening as it features a 50cm blade – 50% longer than their previous model – that can reach up to over 10 foot, reducing the need for ladders or steps.
No matter how thick or strong hedges and branches are, this trimmer is suitable as it can power through masses up to 25mm thick. With an adjustable head that rotates 135 degrees, it can seamlessly move through any conditions needed.
For other options, shoppers could try the McGregor 41cm Cordless Hedge Trimmer – 18V priced at £45 at Argos. It features dual action blades and delivers fast and clean cuts. It is said to be perfect for small to medium hedges in particular as it can cut through 14mm branches at a maximum. Another is the Hyundai 20V Cordless Long Reach Pole Hedge Trimmer for £91 from Hyundai Power Products. With a 3.6 metre reach, 16mm cutting capacity and a five-position pivot head, this is another solid choice.
The longer length Gtech trimmer has a high 4.6 out of 5 star rating from almost 4,000 reviews on the website, however. One person said: “Wow what a great trimmer! It has paid for itself in just one outing, having trimmed my hedge better than any of the previous paid firms did. I intend to use it regularly to keep the hedge in tip-top condition and at no further cost.”
Another wrote: “Brilliant piece of kit. Made mincemeat out of bushes 9’ high and it looks cool hanging own my garage wall.”

Not everyone felt the same way, however, with one person saying: “Excellent for trimming hedges and climbing roses etc, a little heavier than expected. I bought the branch cutter as well.”
Another said: “Great bit of kit, does the job perfectly. The only down side it is a little unwieldy with the weight of the cutting blades having to be being high up, hence the need for the strap to go around one’s shoulder. Would definitely recommend.”
