The Met Office said it will be a sunny start to autumn – but then Hurricane Humberto may bring rain
Londoners will be treated to a week of perfectly acceptable dry weather over the next week, when we enter October. Temperatures are set to hover just below the 20C in the day, with lows of 9C at night. The Met Office is predicting 7 days of no rain, with BBC weather predicting 12 days of sunshine with no rain in sight.
Next Sunday (October 5) is the pick of the bunch if you are looking for sunny skies and a gentle breeze (18C).
Temperatures will hover around 19–21°C for most of this week, close to average but feeling pleasant for the time of year. Early mist and fog could bring a more autumnal feel to mornings, but overall the start of October looks calm and dry for the capital.
There’s little sign of rain over this period too. On Friday (October 3) there’s a 26 per cent chance at around 8am, and on Saturday (October 4) it looks like 42 per cent at 8pm.
And if you don’t enjoy sunny dry London, you can just leave by booking a cheap flight to Lanzarote – which The Met Office say is the best destination for reliably hot weather in October.
For a clue to how the rest of October will go, forecasters at the Met Office are saying the North West of England is going to get rained on, while people in the South East can get on with their lives without an umbrella.
All bets are off once Hurricane Humberto moves into the North Atlantic though. The Met Office said: “As Hurricane Humberto moves into the North Atlantic and loses its tropical characteristics, this will likely have an influence on the UK’s weather, with the potential for wet and very windy conditions around the first weekend of October.
“Beyond here, confidence in the details remains low, owing to the potential for further Atlantic tropical cyclone activity, but further spells of wet and windy weather are possible, more likely across northern areas, with lengthier drier spells in the south. Temperatures probably generally near to a little above average by day, though the possibility of chilly nights and overnight fog later on in the south.”
