The motorway was closed for over an hour as Surrey Police investigated

A driver fled the M25 by foot after crashing into a central reservation last night (September 23), police say. Their damaged vehicle was found on the clockwise carriageway between junction 13 and junction 14, near Heathrow Airport, just after 7pm.

Officers had attempted to stop it minutes earlier but lost sight during the pursuit. The absconding driver is yet to be found, or arrested, in connection, and an investigation is underway.

There were no other passengers present at the time, Surrey Police has confirmed. Zero injuries were reported by other drivers, the force added.

The M25 was part-closed for around 90 minutes whilst enquiries were made. This, and a troublesome oil spill, led to one mile of congestion and a diversion being put in place.

A spokesperson from Surrey Police said: “Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the M25 clockwise carriageway at around 7.05pm yesterday evening (Monday, 22 September). The vehicle failed to stop for police and was pursued for a short time before officers lost sight of it.

“The vehicle was located again several minutes later between J13 and J14, where it had collided with the central reservation. The driver had made off from the scene prior to police arrival.

“No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made at this time. Enquiries are ongoing. The carriageway was subject to a full closure for just over an hour before being fully reopened.”
