Autumn is here already, but that doesn’t mean you need to leave your garden to rot. Gardening expert Gardening With Ish has shared a video on TikTok where you can still do your gardening no matter what the weather

When it’s absolutely tipping it down outside, mustering the enthusiasm to venture into your garden can feel like an uphill battle. Many might think ‘What’s the point anyway?’.

However, one passionate gardening enthusiast revealed that even when the downpour has you feeling fed up, there’s no excuse to stay cooped up indoors sulking – as there’s loads you can crack on with in the garden. Gardening With Ish headed to TikTok to reveal activities you can tackle during a deluge, writing alongside his clip: “Rain rain, go… and make my day easier? We have plenty of it in Britain and it helps keep our garden thriving! Here’s a few things you can while gardening in the rain.”

He admitted he’d “love” to “stay indoors and have a cup of tea” – yet there were tasks he could be cracking on with.

He explained some jobs the rain actually “helps” with, so he was going to “tackle” those activities and demonstrate what can be accomplished when it’s absolutely pelting down.

Ish revealed he owned a potted Acer, which he’d cherished for a year after snapping it up for £10 from Morrisons.

The specimen was “thriving” under Ish’s care, with him suggesting “a handful” of Acer feed “once or twice a year”.

He noted the “rain helps to water it down”. Another task you can tackle during a downpour is “feed the lawn”, with him quipping it was “free water”.

He also insisted the rainwater would help the grass get “growing” as the feed combined with moisture works miracles.

In the rain, he mentioned that he was also checking his “newly potted seeds”, emphasising the importance to “check they’re getting enough water where they are.”

Ish found the soil to be “perfectly damp”, so he decided to leave them in the same position.

One woman confessed in the comments that she was having trouble with her Acer, praising Ish’s as “beautiful”.

He responded: “Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that!

“I’ll be sure to make a little video on my Acer for some future tips if you try again! (Which you should, they’re beautiful trees).”
