A woman has opened up about how she fell for a man, despite the fact that they don’t speak the same language – and she married him four weeks after they met. Natalie saw Muhammet in a cocktail bar in Bodrum, Turkey, where he worked as a security guard. They locked eyes, and the rest was history. “He didn’t speak any English when we first met, so we just used Google Translate,” she admitted.
Natalie said that when she first saw Muhammet, she thought he was “very handsome, but very serious,” so she wanted to see if she “could make him smile”.
Muhammet later “slid” into Natalie’s messages, and that’s when they started talking properly – but he didn’t speak English, so people already began questioning their relationship.
They “passed the phone back and forth” on Google Translate so they could communicate with one another.
Natalie told Love Don’t Judge on YouTube that she is not “actively learning Turkish,” and their main focus as a couple was for Muhammet to learn English.
Muhammet said that he’s “learning every day” and sometimes can speak in “perfect” English, but sometimes, naturally, he makes mistakes, so they still use Google Translate if necessary.
In the video, Natalie’s friend Yevge then went over to their house to give her “opinion” about the situation.
Yevge admitted that she thought they’d be “flirting for one week or two weeks,” so when they got married, she was “shocked,” as they had no real way to speak to one another.
She also said that she was surprised by the couple’s age gap, as Muhammet is eight years younger than Natalie.
Natalie said when she married Muhammet, friends and family were “shocked,” and some “concerned” by how quickly their relationship had moved, but some were “completely supportive”.
And when they announced their marriage on TikTok, it ended up in a Turkish newspaper, where Muhammet’s parents saw it. He said that they didn’t “understand” the relationship as they’re more “traditional”.
Online, some accuse Muhammet of wanting “a green card” and her “money,” and say Natalie is only with him for “a good time”.
But the pair “laugh” at the comments as they know their relationship is strong.
Muhammet said that he doesn’t want to go to Natalie’s native America and wants the pair to stay in Turkey forever.
“Our relationship works because we’re very similar and have a lot of common goals in life. We know how to pick up if one of us is struggling, and always support each other,” Natalie said.
Muhammet said they are the “same” and he “loves” Natalie.
But what would they say to the haters? “Even though our situation is different, it doesn’t mean that it’s wrong, and I think that people should start to focus more on their own lives than trying to talk badly about other people. So, judge all you want,” Natalie said.
In the comments, someone joked: “Muhammet didn’t speak any English, but he sure was fluent in FINE”.
