Halloween is just around the corner, and many will be considering putting their decorations up soon. However, Dr Amir has warned that there’s something you shouldn’t use
Many households have likely put their Halloween decorations up already – it’s October after all. From spooky skeletons that can be posed near your front door to creepy wreaths adorned with skulls, animatronics and more, there are so many different ways you can creep the neighbours out each year during the run-up to October 31.
However, NHS doctor and regular on ITV’s Lorraine, Dr Amir Khan, has shared that there’s one decoration you should reconsider this year, because it can be seriously dangerous. He made an Instagram video to warn people about the decoration, with a “polite reminder”. But many had no clue.
Dr Amir said: “Hey, team. I just wanted to put a polite and very friendly reminder out there. I know Halloween’s coming up, and I love Halloween as much as everyone. I love the spookiness, I love horror movies […]
“The point I’m making is, please, please, don’t put those fake cobwebby things around your bushes or trees or outdoor plants or wherever outside.
“I know they look kinda cool with the cobweb vibe, but they trap animals, they trap birds, they trap bugs, and things just die a horrible, horrible death in them”.
He described them as “awful” for animals, saying that it’s “just not worth it” for the impact it can have on these creatures.
As an alternative, he said people should “just use other Halloween decorations,” suggesting a pumpkin, as it looks “nice”.
“Yeah, but just don’t put those cobwebs out, honestly. As a bird lover, as an animal lover, if you are the same, it’s just not worth it. And kids can find other ways to enjoy Halloween. Thank you, please and thank you,” he ended his video by reiterating.
In the comments, people praised him for raising awareness of this, as many people had no idea and were just buying the decorations as they’re cheap, cheerful, and look really good.
One person wrote: “Bless you, Amir, thank you so much for posting this message, I totally agree with you. Can’t bear the thought of putting wildlife, birds or animals in danger.
“These things really should be banned. I get so upset this time of year with fireworks, too; they’ve already started up here. Our Oz is terrified, bless him, and the poor wildlife, horses and all outdoor animals must wonder what’s going on and be terrified too!”
Another penned: “I agree. It’s very important we make sure we don’t put our birds and other animals in danger for only one day/night of Halloween fun. Choose safer decorations instead!”
“Also, at this time of year, if you keep some good thorny bushes about, the spiders make them for you; it’s a Halloween collab,” a keen gardener commented.
