A pleasant start to next week is expected after Storm Amy sweeps across London

London is set to experience a warm spell shortly after 51mph Storm Amy winds batter the city. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Saturday as transport routes could face severe disruption.

Northern and western Scotland is set to mostly bear the brunt of the storm with a more severe amber wind warning in place for Elgin and the Orkney Islands, while forecasters have also warned of heavy rain in Glasgow.

The storm which is currently building over the Atlantic is influenced by the remnants of hurricanes Humberto and Imelda. Sunday, October 5 will see the strong winds begin to drop, making way for a pleasant start to next week.

On Monday, October 6 temperatures are expected to reach 20C in London coupled with sunny spells throughout. This weather pattern should remain consistent for the next few days with the mercury hovering between 18-19C and intermittent sun.

The Met Office’s yellow weather warning will come into force from midnight and continue until 7pm on Saturday, October 4. The Met Office said some bus and train services will be affected, while the worst affected places might experience a short-term loss of power.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Neil Armstrong said: “Within the Scotland amber warning area, gusts in excess of 95mph are possible from Friday evening and into Saturday morning as Stormy Amy brings a risk of power cuts and damage to buildings and trees. Gusts up to 80 mph are possible within the Northern Ireland warning area, more widely 60-70 mph gusts are expected in the Amber warning areas, in what will be an impactful autumn storm for many in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“Rainfall is an additional hazard, in particular over western Scotland, where totals could exceed 30-50mm in 6-9 hours, increasing the risk of flooding for some. Warnings will continue to be tweaked and amended in the coming days as confidence increases so stay up to date with the latest Met Office forecast and warnings.”
