West London Imam stabbed with police investigating ‘motive for the attack’

No arrests have yet been made in connection while the mosque has released a statement over the ‘unprovoked stabbing’

A West London Imam has been rushed to hospital with stab wounds, with police investigating a “possible motive for the attack.” The Imam, of Al Furqan Education Trust, in Hounslow, was stabbed in the borough on Monday, September 22.

Al Furqan Mosque has said that the man who was stabbed, in his 30s, was their Imam Sheikh Mohamed Yusuf. He self-presented at a west London hospital, where his injuries were assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

Police say that they are keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the stabbing.

A spokesperson for the Al Furqan Education Trust, Hounslow, posted to X: “Our community experienced a deeply distressing incident involving our Imam, Imam Yusuf, who was the victim of an unprovoked stabbing. Alhamdulillah’s, he is currently in a stable condition in hospital and receiving the appropriate care.

“This matter is now the subject of an active police investigation. At this time, the motive remains unknown. We kindly urge everyone not to speculate or share unverified information, particularly on social media, as this can hinder the investigation and cause additional distress to the family and community.

“We ask you to keep Imam Yusuf in your duas, if you have information that may assist the authorities, please contact the Masjid Office.”

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Officers were called at 8pm on Monday, September 22 to a West London hospital after a man in his 30s arrived with a knife wound. The victim’s injuries have been deemed as non-life threatening or life changing.

“The investigation continues and officers are keeping an open mind about the possible motive for the attack, which happened in the Hounslow area. No arrests have been at this stage and enquiries continue. If you have any information, CCTV or ring doorbell footage that could help police please contact 101 quoting CAD 6872/22SEP.”
