Jon Barr has shared his verdict after travelling to London to sample what he described as the ‘most British meal of all time’ at a traditional pub in Kensington
An American tourist has offered his verdict after journeying to London to sample what he called the “most British meal ever”. Jon Barr made his way to The Cadogan Arms pub on Kensington’s King’s Road – renowned for its traditional British fare and roast dinners.
“It’s my first time trying what could be the most British meal of all time,” he opened in a TikTok video. “I tried my first Sunday roast – think of it as England’s answer to Thanksgiving except it is every single week,” Jon explained to his American audience. After tucking into three courses, he shared his thoughts with his 80,000 followers.
Jon revealed that his lavish meal kicked off with a black pudding Scotch egg, something he declared, “blew my mind” and came accompanied by an Irish soda bread steak tartare on the side. “It was fresh, sharp and way better than I expected,” he enthused.
Next came the main course – for which the indulgent Jon chose a sharing platter.
“It was stacked with native rump of beef and bone marrow gravy, slow-roasted pork belly – my personal favourite, crispy and rich – and a shoulder of lamb,” he gushed. “It was super tender and packed with flavour,” Jon raved about the latter.
Still having space for pudding, he rounded off his experience by sampling a trio of rhubarb crumble, strawberry trifle and a sticky toffee pudding.
Wrapping up, Jon concluded: “This was Thanksgiving without the turkey. Honestly, a must-do for any first timer in England.”
Writing in response, one baffled Brit questioned: “Why do people hold Scotch eggs in such high regard when it comes to British food? Literally no one eats them.”
A second person remarked: “This looks lush. Now you need to find someone’s mum to cook it for you. Or do a Toby Carvery.”
Meanwhile, a third TikTok user suggested to Jon: “Sunday roast at home usually consists of one type roast meat, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, green veg and Yorkshire pudding with thick gravy.”
The Cadogan Arms proudly boasts online: “With a food offering focused on provenance, seasonality and traceability, we celebrate the very best of British produce alongside carefully selected wines, bespoke beers and classic cocktails, reimagining ‘the humble pub’ with a public house of which Chelsea, and London, can be proud.”
However, as numerous TikTok users highlighted, Jon’s meal doesn’t come cheap.
The pub’s Sunday menu shows the Sunday Sharer Board can be purchased for £36.50 per person – whilst individual servings of the Native Rump of Beef, Slow Roasted Pork Belly and Shoulder of Lamb cost customers £34, £30 and £75 respectively.
