Staff attempted to help the man before his death
A secondary school in South West London has reopened after a contractor died outside its gates yesterday morning (Tuesday, October 7). Police and paramedics descended on Teddington School, on Broom Road, just after 7.15am, with staff members administering first aid before their arrival.
Pupils were sent home before registration but have today ‘continued as normal’ and returned to the classroom. In a statement, the school said: “Emergency services were called to school yesterday after an external contractor was taken ill.
“Support was provided by both our staff and by paramedics but sadly he died yesterday morning. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
The man’s name or age is yet to be made public, and his cause of death remains unconfirmed. The Metropolitan Police said the London Ambulance Service (LAS) led the response due to a “medical emergency”.
A spokesperson for LAS said: “We were called at 7.17am to reports of an unwell person in Broom Road, Teddington. We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene. Despite the efforts to save his life, a patient sadly died at the scene.”
Parents were left in the dark about the nature of incident for some time, according to to reports on social media platform X. One person wrote: “I am now hearing many ambulances. All the kids have been sent home. It was early, before most of them had arrived.”
Another added: “Teddington school closed with police and ambulance in attendance. Lots of police and ambulances in attendance. May be outside the school blocking entry. All that’s certain is closed all day.”
