Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, 68, has been charged with sexual offences against seven women
Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, 68, has been charged with sexual offences against seven women, including four counts of rape, between 1983 and 2016, the Metropolitan Police said. Westwood, of Westminster, has been charged with the following offences: Four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault
The details of the offences for which Tim Westwood has been charged are as follows:
- In 1983, a 17-year-old girl was indecently assaulted in the Fulham area of London
- In 1986, a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in the Vauxhall area of London
- Between 1995 and 1996, a female between the age of 17-18 was raped in London. It is also alleged that the same woman was sexually assaulted in central London within the same timeframe
- Between 2000 and 2001, a female between the age of 17-18 was raped and sexually assaulted in London
- In 2010, a woman in her 20s was raped in London
- In 2010, a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in Stroud
- In 2016, a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in the Finchley area of London
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, from the Metropolitan Police Service, said: “It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature. The women who have done so have put their trust in us and we continue to provide them with all available support.
“Our investigation remains open and we’d encourage anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with us. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at [email protected]. Any reports will be dealt with in the strictest confidence by specialist officers.
“Support is also available by contacting the independent charity, Rape Crisis at 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
Westwood will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 11. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives by emailing [email protected] or by calling 101 and quoting 4672/09OCT25.
In response to historical sexual abuse allegations, Westwood has previously said he “strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour”.
He stepped down from his show on Capital Xtra in April 2022 and left Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra in 2013 after nearly 20 years.
He also presented the MTV UK car makeover show Pimp My Ride UK, which ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2007.
Westwood is the son of the former Anglican bishop of Peterborough, Bill Westwood, who died in the 1990s.
