Poached eggs are a delicious addition to avocado toast, but cooking them can be a bit of a struggle. But experts say there’s a foolproof way to make them that actually requires no fuss.

No matter how skilled you are in the kitchen, one dish that can often prove tricky is a poached egg. They’re a delicious topping for avocado toast when you fancy a tasty breakfast, but they’re not always easy to prepare.

It should only take a few minutes, but achieving the perfect swirl and cook in the pan can often lead to a soggy, stringy disaster. However, culinary experts suggest that you don’t need a pan at all — in fact, you don’t even need to turn on the hob.

The professionals at Taste.com.au recommend cooking poached eggs in the microwave, saying it’s the ‘easiest’ method.

If you’ve never attempted making poached eggs in the microwave, it’s actually simpler than you might think. It only takes a minute or two, and there’s significantly less mess compared to cooking them in a pan of water.

All you need is a microwave-safe dish to crack the egg into, and you’re set — there’s no need to boil the kettle. The experts claim this technique results in a perfectly runny centre every time, which is always the sign of a good poached egg, reports the Express.

How to cook poached eggs in the microwave

To make microwaved poached eggs, crack the egg into a small microwave-safe dish. Prick the yolk with a fork to prevent it from bursting during cooking, as this could save you a significant clean-up later.

Firstly, microwave for around one minute. Given that these appliances can have varying power settings and wattages, consider this as a starting point. If it’s not cooked to your liking after this time, continue microwaving in 30-second bursts until you achieve the perfect consistency.

The experts said: “There are so many poached egg hacks out there but this one is the easiest by far, with a gorgeously runny centre every time.”

However, the microwave isn’t the only appliance capable of poaching eggs. If you own an air fryer, this gadget is also ideal, and just as straightforward.

The experts at BBC Good Food suggest that all you need to do is oil two large ramekins, then fill them three-quarters full with water before placing them in the air fryer at 200C for five minutes until the water is simmering.

Next, break two eggs into a small cup and pour them into the water in the ramekins. Return them to the air fryer and cook at 180C for five to eight minutes until the yolk is cooked to your liking.

Use a knife or spoon to free the egg from the ramekin, then drain the water using a slotted spoon and enjoy.
