The duped victim crashed his car as he bled out trying to escape

Two drug dealers from Enfield will spend at least 36 years behind bars after a man was lured to a flat and shot in the leg. Amir Mahamud, 27 (left) and Hamidreza Nasiri, 30, of Garfield Road and Holbrook Close, respectively, attacked the victim in Waltham Abbey on November 24, 2024.

He had been told to come to the town’s Howard Close by the pair’s 41-year-old accomplice Margit Knap, unaware others were waiting to strike. Minutes later, he was ambushed as he entered the housing block.

Managing to escape to his car, the victim bled out as he drove away and crashed nearby. Police found two bullet casings and a bullet that missed the victim in the spare tyre of the car, fired as he fled.

While Knap was arrested at the scene, Nasiri and Mahamud were apprehended on November 26, 2024 and January 21, 2025. They were found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm on Monday, October 6, and each sentenced to 27 years in prison for the former at Basildon Crown Court yesterday (October 13).

They will have to serve at least 18 years before being eligible for parole. Detectives also learned the pair’s mobile phones were used to deal drugs, with dozens of messages regarding the supply of Class A and B drugs uncovered during the investigation.

Mahamud has also been found guilty of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and cocaine, with Nasiri previously pleading guilty to these same offences. The pair have also been given concurrent sentences of ten-and-a-half years for these and the possession of a gun.

Knap was sentenced to five years in prison.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Sergeant David Crane, of Essex Police, said: “These sentences reflect the plain and obvious danger carrying a firearm presents. Nasiri, Mahamud and Knap lured the victim to the location and attempted to kill him using a firearm.

“This was a callous act that took place on a residential street during daylight hours endangering the safety of the public. I would like to praise the members of public who came forward to assist us with this case and also my team of detectives who have worked tirelessly to bring these individuals to justice.”
