The trio have been sentenced to a combined 27 years in prison

Two drug dealers who used a Post Office in Walthamstow to ship heroin and crack cocaine across the UK have been jailed. Alain Kirunda-Nsiiro, 39, and Jerome Omard, 44, were part of a gang who conspired to supply class As over the dark web in exchange for crypto-currency.

The pair, of Higham Hill Road, Walthamstow and Durban Road, Tottenham, respectively, alongside Malcom Magala, 37, of Oriel Road, Portsmouth, established an encrypted customer list over many years. An investigation began in 2022 when the latter’s online persona, used on multiple marketplaces since 2020, was identified by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU).

Detectives then established Kirunda-Nsiiro and later Omard were preparing and shipping orders to people all over the country. Having tracked cryptocurrency payments and customer parcels, a team intercepted Omard in July 2022 as he attempted to drop off the latest shipment.

A search of his home uncovered 138g of heroin stashed inside a music speaker and other drugs hidden throughout the property. Officers simultaneously intercepted a driving Magala, who was in possession of £3,150 of crypto-currency, as well as crypto-currency hardware.

His home was also searched and a small pill press was discovered, along with small quantities of pills. Kirunda-Nsiiro was arrested a few days afterwards.

Omard was sentenced to four years and six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to supply class A drugs (namely heroin), and acquiring criminal property at Reading Crown Court yesterday (October 13). He pleaded guilty at a hearing on August 28 last year.

At the same court, Magala was handed 11 years and three months’ behind bars for conspiracy to supply class A drugs (namely cocaine and heroin), and acquiring criminal property. He too pleaded guilty, at a hearing on February 18 of this year.

For his role, Kirunda-Nsiiro was handed 12 years in prison for conspiracy to supply class A drugs (namely heroin), and acquiring criminal property. He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted following a two week trial at Reading Crown Court on August 1.

Detective Inspector Rob Bryant of SEROCU’s Cyber Pursue, Prevent, Crypto-currency and Dark Web team, said: “These three men were involved in a complex operation to take orders for class A drugs over the dark web and then distributing them across the country using the postal service.

“Our investigation showed the extent of their crimes, and I am pleased that they have all been given prison sentences today, meaning that they are no longer able to send harmful and addictive drugs to their customers, which cause misery to so many people. I hope that this shows criminals that their activities on the dark web are detectable and that we can and do monitor their behaviour before carrying out arrests and bringing them before the courts.”
