Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerûn releases next month, and Wizards of the Coast have released a level 3 adventure from the book early
Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerûn is due to release on 11 November 2025, and in anticipation of it’s release, Wizards of the Coast have released an adventure early. Not only that, but they’re giving it away for free – you can find it here.
The Tenebrous Stone is a level 3 Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons adventure, in which the party must uncover the source of a blight thats cursed the quarries of Helmsdale. In order to do so, the players must adventure into a basalt quarry, fighting undead mosters as they seek to reverse the curse.
It’s a somewhat short adventure, that comes with a map, some encounters, some puzzles, and a boss fight.
A key hook though (aside from the 300GP reward) will be the fact that players and the DM can bring the adventure to life with the Maps VTT, the virtual tabletop with no requirement for a subscription.
This lets players quickplay maps, track encounters using the provided tools, and use things like overlays, stickers, and fog of war.
This is crucial because Maps is now available to all players, with additional tools available to subscribers. This makes it a fantastic option for those looking to play online, or even those who are bored of cutting out peices of card to cover maps in their in-person sessions.
The Tenebrous Stone may be the perfect oppurtunity for some people to test out Maps, and potentially incorporate it into their day to day homebrew campaigns. It also gives a flavour of whats to come in the Forgotten Realms: Adventures of Faerûn, as well as the companion text Heroes of Faerûn.
In case you hadn’t heard, Heroes of Faerûn is a new player compendium, that includes 8 new subclasses, new spells, 8 classic and emerging factions, new feats and backgrounds, and a whole catalogue of regional equipment.
It also includes rules on Circle magic – a way for a group of spellcasters to significantly power up their spells by adding additional effects and strength. It’s not the first time we’ve seen Circle casting, with the third edition version taking an hour to complete and allowing the person casting to cast the spell at a higher level.
Adventures in Faerûn adds new stuff too – 5 settings, more than 50 adventures, 37 new monsters and villains, and 12 new magic items – as well as Bastions unique to each setting and a level 1 to 3 adventure for all settings.
The bundle releases on 11 November 2025, and can be found as a physical book or a digitally on D&D Beyond.
